While I Was Unpacking

Okay, wait. I was unpacking boxes at my new house and BAM!, the world goes nuts. Moving during a pandemic was interesting and challenging. Watching the riots on the news (Yes, they are riots, not protest) and now the horrible fires in California, Oregon, and Washington state is heartbreaking. But I have to say the most mind-crushing, horrific news of all is what Netflix has deemed as entertainment, and the fact that California’s lawmakers think that if a person ten years older than a fourteen-year-old has sexual relations with said fourteen-year-old, it’s not sexual exploitation, they’re crazy.

Netflix’s show, ‘Cuties’, is a prime example of the cesspool we live in. Yes, you have the right not to watch it. You also have the right to cancel your subscription and not support them. But the bottom line is, we as a society have lost sight of what’s right and wrong. Someone on the top floor of Netflix signed off on this show. Why? Maybe it was for the money that they could get from all those pedophiles that don’t subscribe to Netflix, or maybe he knew it would draw attention (which it has) to the company. Publicity, good or bad, can be a good thing. Whatever the reason, it just adds to the sickness in our world. My hopes and prayers are they take the show off the network. Especially now that ‘Cuties’ has ended up on porn sites.

With that said, is it Netflix’s fault that the show exists? No, unfortunately, the idea of the show came from adult filmmakers (I have my own personal thought as to what kind of person he or she is, knowing that the audition would be on how good the girls twerked). However, the parents of these young girls are not excused. They are the problem. Without the parents exploiting their children, there wouldn’t be a show named ‘Cuties’. These young girls did the show because their parents said it was okay for them to do so. Yes, I do believe Netflix is part of the problem, but they are not the source of the problem. Perversion goes all the way back into biblical times and had been addressed by God in the old testament and new testament. The sad fact is, we as humans never learn. It’s easier for us to wallow in our sin than it is to fight against it.

Hello California. What were the lawmakers thinking? A state bill, SB 145, just passed that states a fourteen-year-old is mature enough to have sex with a person ten years older. I’m sorry, I raised four children and I know they didn’t start thinking for themselves until seventeen or eighteen, and even then, we the parents, are a sounding board for them when they come for advice. At that age, they are the mouthpiece of their parents. What do I mean by that? As parents, we teach our children our beliefs, our way of life, even our politics. To say you are going to let them decided on their own whether or not they believe in God is hogwash. It’s the parents that heavily influence their children right up to their late teens. There is no escaping it. So, now California says that if a person (I believe women can be pedophiles right along with men) is ten years older than a fourteen-year-old, a judge can decide whether the adult will be listed as a pedophile. Who do you think is in control in a situation where a twenty-four-year-old and fourteen-year-old engage in sex? Not the young teen. A person whose twenty-four knows right from wrong, and definitely has a greater influence, not the teenager. Our world is twisted and sick and needs healing—in more areas than one.

Food for thought. Our God is a gracious God. He gives us the right to choose, to take the path of our choosing. However, there will be a day of judgment for us all. A day that we all have to stand before the throne, Rev. 22:12 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gate. Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” What side of the city gate are you going to be on? Blaming God for all the bad in the world is crazy, especially since the world has pushed Him away. He won’t force you to love Him, nor will He force you into the Kingdom of God when you die. He will leave you outside the city gate because you choose to be there. Choose wisely, for you can only choose while you’re alive.
